Skin allergies are troublesome medical condition that could cause skin irritation and rashes among other residual skin problems. A major contributor to the occurrence of skin allergies is the use of skin care products such as cellulite treatment pills and fat reduction medicine that have not been tested for sensitive skin. In order to prevent skin allergies, it is important for you to know the substances to which your skin is allergic to. Otherwise, you would have to suffer days’ worth of skin irritation, itching, and/or swelling. If you have sensitive skin, but has no idea over what substances can cause allergic reactions to your skin, here are some of the easiest methods to verify your allergies.

Scratch test (Puncture or Prick test)

This skin allergy test requires a doctor, nurse or any other skin expert to examine the skin on your forearm and back. The first step is to clean the areas to be examined with a dab of alcohol. After the sanitization, the area to be examined shall be marked with a surgical pen dividing the back area into skin patches that have indicators on what allergen will be placed there.

The doctor will then extract certain types of common allergenic substances such as pollens, insect venom, or animal dander. In the case of skin product testing, the skin products will be used instead of the allergens. The doctor will now prick parts of the examined area in order for the allergens to enter the outer layers of the skin. After waiting for about an hour or so, the doctor will check for any signs of allergic reactions based on the allergen introduced to the skin patch.

Intradermal test

An intradermal test is similar to the prick test as it uses a pricking device. Nonetheless, a major difference is that the intradermal test actually injects the allergen to the deeper layers of the epidermis. The allergen will be inserted inside the skin using a disposable pricking device and the doctor will wait and observe for any signs of allergic reactions. However, make sure to consult with the doctor first before going through this allergy test as it can cause serious side effects if untreated. While the skin allergy test is a lot cheaper compared to various anti-aging treatments in the market, it comes with its own risk. Make sure to know everything there is to know about allergic reactions before deciding to have your skin tested.

Patch test

The most convenient way to test for skin allergies is through the use of the patch test. The patch test involves using actual skin products on hidden parts of the skin. This is the most popular skin allergy checking method as it does not make use of injections or pricking devices that could hurt you. After regular application of the skin product, the hidden skin patch will be observed for signs of allergic reactions. If the patch does not show allergic reactions, you could continue using the product being tested.

A multitude of possible skin problems can arise with the wrong substance applied to the skin. Avoid committing the mistake of using products that are potentially lethal to your skin health. Consult a doctor now and have your skin checked for possible allergies.
